A new initiative is set to accelerate the next generation of game companies in Malmö. To lead this effort, senior games industry profile Renée Jessen joins Minc as Portfolio Lead Games.
Minc and Game Habitat are joining forces to launch a new game innovation program aimed at turning more ideas into successful, scalable companies—strengthening Malmö’s position as one of Europe’s leading game hubs.
The initiative combines a dedicated program for early-stage teams with the development of a new investment structure tailored specifically to game companies. Backed by the City of Malmö with 3.6 million SEK in annual funding, the ambition is clear: enable more founders to go from concept to global success.
– I’m very happy to take up this position, and to join Minc and Game Habitat in this work. Supporting founders and helping creative teams build sustainable businesses is something I care deeply about. I’m excited to contribute to and grow this incredible ecosystem that plays such an important role in shaping the next generation of game companies, says Rénee Jessen.
Renée brings extensive experience from across the games ecosystem, having founded and led companies, worked with international companies, and invested in game ventures. His background includes roles such as Head of Games at ECI Games, CEO and Co-founder of Character Localisation, and Managing Director and Co-founder of Articipate—giving him a unique perspective across both creative and commercial sides of the industry.
– Renée has previously run several game companies, has done games investments, and has a significant global games network that will be beneficial to everyone in Malmö’s games industry. He’s a great fit for the new role, comments Dennis Åström, Program Manager at Minc.
– The new efforts aim to develop new successful game companies in Malmö. Work is already underway, and as Renée joins, we'll be able to move even faster. We aim to have a pilot of the new innovation program running already in the autumn, adds Peter Lübeck, CEO at Game Habitat.
Renée Jessen starts his new job on 4 May.
