The pandemic, and the necessary restrictions that followed, have given the hospitality and tourism industries a really hard time this past year; the industry simply had to adapt in order to stay alive. That is why the City of Malmö commissioned Minc to help the industry catch up on their digitalisation; Minc tourism accelerator (MTA) was born. It has resulted in one batch fall/winter of 2020 consisting of companies from the industries, followed by a second batch of startups in the industries. With insights from the first round, we truly feel that we are in the right time and place.
Minc always has our beloved Malmö in mind. Apart from the obvious focus - helping companies from the region grow - it's also a matter of doing good for the city as a whole. The general mentality in Malmö is putting people and attitude first, and focus on ideas rather than on your resume. This works in our favour, when working with innovations. People, companies and the city is eager to learn, keen on experiments and too curious to let things slip away. When acting as a matchmaker between startups, the industries and the city we see an opportunity to push innovations and business forward. And the best part - everybody wins.

"Startups attract talent, they give young people a reason to stay, the increase the investment base in a city, gosh, they even make the city happier - with better coffee shops and neat innovations that the host city gets to play with first. They stop a city dying."
— Mark Jennings, co-head coach of MTA.
The pandemic has also made it very clear that we all need more sustainable and resilient solutions. 2020-2021 is going down in history as a very hard time for all of us. Both personally and business wise. If it happened in now, it can happen again. The upside is that creative minds got to work, and lots of digital solutions have been presented to the world. Lots of experimenting, some failures and some aha-moments. All this can indeed be really tough, and that's where MTA comes in to hold some hands, offer a shoulder, and to push in the right direction at the right time. Hopefully this will lead to investments in one end, and problems being solved in another.
In a longer term perspective, we wish to make a true and lasting impact in the tourism and hospitality industry. Something that lives on and triggers a chain effect through the region and beyond. An industry on a more solid digital ground and feeling more safe in their position. Hopefully with a creative spark, and insights on how to reinvent things for future obstacles along the way.
